This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
First grade is a lot of reading, but what about writing? The most challenging things to first learn in school is writing. Remembering what letter makes what sound, then stringing them together while remember to use finger-spacing, what gets a capital letter, and which ending mark to use, all the while making it look nice and neat. Even the savviest of students can become intimidated by all of this. Since we have technology that can do it for us, there are some who believe writing is a lost art. Writing, however is so much more. Using a pencil helps exercise our brain, it helps with memory (especially when spelling), it expresses our creativity and our own personal style. Writing can be fun! That is my goal for my students, to love hearing stories from a variety of different authors AND to fall in love with their own creativity through writing. Would you help me do this?
