My Project

I have the privilege of teaching 12th-grade students from low-income and minority backgrounds at FBMHS as part of our Patient Care Pathway program. Many of my students aspire to enter the medical field, but they face barriers such as limited access to academic resources and financial constraints. This project aims to provide them with hands-on experience in calculating medication dosages, an essential skill for future healthcare professionals.

The requested resources—pill sortors—will create an engaging, real-world learning environment.

These tools will help students develop the critical thinking and mathematical skills required to accurately calculate dosages, reinforcing the importance of precision in patient care. By practicing these calculations with hands-on materials, students will gain confidence and fluency in applying dosage formulas, reducing the likelihood of errors in future medical careers.

What makes my students special is their resilience, determination, and passion for healthcare. Despite facing systemic challenges, they are eager to learn and work hard to build a better future for themselves and their families. This project will not only enhance their math skills but also prepare them for real-world clinical scenarios, increasing their chances of success in internships and post-secondary education.

My goal is to ensure that every student leaves this course with a strong foundation in medication administration, reinforcing their ability to pursue careers in nursing, pharmacy, or other medical professions. By providing these resources, we can bridge the educational gap and give my students the tools they need to thrive in the healthcare industry.
