My Students

Using paper and pencil in the classroom continuously can be monotonous. When I ask my students to use their whiteboards for an activity, they get excited instantly! They have no idea that I am sometimes having them complete an informal assessment. These whiteboards are great for any activity!

My students are so wonderful!

They are full of life and energy and have so much to learn. The school I teach at is 87% free and reduced lunch. They don't have many experiences, and school is either their safe haven or their parents do not see the importance of education. A lot of times, my second graders are in charge of getting everyone in the house ready for school because their parents may be working their second job. My students very rarely come to school with the basic supplies. Asking for students to bring in a personal whiteboard is not an option for my school and class. Using these whiteboards helps to get these students motivated to do their work.

My Project

These personal whiteboards are a great way to get students motivated in the classroom. I have previously used them for math activities, both whole group and small group. I have even used them in reading activities. In fact, I use them so much that the ones I have are quite destroyed. These boards, in specific, are great because not only can the students use the boards for any math, reading, grammar, science activity on the blank side, but on the flip side there are writing lines so we can use that side for writing activities, allowing them to write properly on lines. This would also be great to use with my lower groups who need to work on phonics, correctly writing out letters that represent sounds.

These boards are not just another method of writing for the students.

I can use these boards to assess informally without them feeling as though they are being tested. They can show me what they know, feeling comfortable and excited about using the boards. This is also a great way to get EVERYONE involved in my whole group lessons, instead of just one or two.
