Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Early this year, I asked students "What would you want to change about this school if you could?" and many of them referenced their need for basic personal hygiene supplies in the student bathrooms. Countless times, I have students come to me asking for feminine hygiene products, lotion, or deodorant as they didn't bring any to school with them. We surveyed the entire student body to determine which resources would be most needed and had discussions about how to manage and track resources for the students.
This project is entirely influenced by student voice and creating this Donor's Choose project is one way for me to empower students to make changes in our school (and hopefully in the world thereafter).
Our students deserve to feel comfortable and safe in our schools and having these resources would greatly help.
