My Students

Do you remember the excitement of finding a penny on the ground when you were a kid? My students need opportunities to work on financial literacy in a math station that allows students to access an on-line websites to improve their skills and understanding of money!

Our students are so excited to learn and spend a ton of time in text in fourth grade.

They are a group of diverse learners with amazing potential. Many of our students qualify for free or reduced priced meals. Our school is located in the heart of the neighborhood that many of our students live in. We are so proud of our community and know that our students are its future.

My Project

My request is simple. I am looking to integrate an iPad Air computer tablet into our math learning time to provide my students with the opportunity to interact with a web based program which improves financial literacy. The program ask students to imagine how they want to live once they're on their own. Will they buy a car? Where will they live? Do they want go to the movies or sports events most every weekend? I'll tell them that it's their life and they can do whatever they want . . . OR CAN THEY? Students imagine the possibilities . . . then fill in choices on the web site, and get ready for a Reality Check! Chances are they'll be surprised at how much the so-called dream life will cost. Once they've indicated their choices, the program will show them what income they'll need to live the life they want. They'll even get a list of careers that support the lifestyle they want.

Many of my Title I students are poverty stricken.

We feel it's important to develop a foundation for them in financial competency. By setting up a technology based math station, my students will learn to appreciate the value of a dollar or even a penny!
