Perseverance: Documentary of Our Hurricane Experience

My Students

From the outside, it may just look like your usual ELA classroom, but on the inside it is a steam engine building momentum! Our students are Still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Florence. It is always inspiring to watch the joy on their faces when they see themselves as a success.

Their energy is contagious.

I am inspired when they want to be writers. I am grateful when they express their leadership. They are becoming entrepreneurs and business operators. They are leading and inspiring in ways they never dreamed!

My Project

These materials will enable students to achieve greater understanding of the power of digital media and how to develop their digital skills. They will focus on how video, print, and images can work together to create impactful presentations. This school year has been a challenging one, unlike any our students have experienced in their lifetimes. Our town saw unprecedented flooding downtown and in rural areas. As part of their final project of the year, students would like to create their own documentary style video to reflect and process on the events that came about. From daring home rescues to total loss and devastation, our students have worked hard to regain normalcy and support one another.
