My Project

As a social worker, I’ve seen how something as simple as access to feminine hygiene products can deeply impact a student’s mental health and overall well-being, particularly for minority and lower socioeconomic high school students. Many of these students face financial hardship, which often means they don’t have the resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity and comfort. Without access to basics like tampons, pads, deodorant, personal wipes, or menstrual heating pads, students experience unnecessary stress and anxiety. This can lead to embarrassment or fear of attending school, impacting their ability to focus on academics or engage in school activities.

The emotional toll of not having access to these basic products is just as significant as the physical discomfort.

Students may feel ashamed or disconnected from their peers, leading them to isolate themselves or avoid social situations. Providing items like sweatpants for comfort and menstrual heating pads for relief can reduce this stress, allowing students to feel more secure and accepted. I’ve seen how these simple supports encourage students to participate in gym class and extracurricular activities, knowing they have what they need to feel confident.

It’s not just about providing products—it’s about showing these students they matter, that their well-being is a priority, and that they deserve to feel comfortable, regardless of their financial background. When their basic needs are met, students experience stronger emotional resilience, better focus in school, and a greater sense of belonging. This support helps them build the foundation for a healthier, more confident future. As a social worker, I’ve witnessed firsthand how small acts of care can transform the lives of my students!
