Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our 5th grade ICT classroom has 20 students with a substantial amount of students receiving special education services. They are a part of the Lower East Side community, one which is vibrant and diverse. Many of our students speak Spanish and come from immigrant families. The majority of our students are living in poverty and especially need access to technology and quality resources to be successful in school and beyond.

They are curious and excited learners!

My Project

Our students have been diving into nonfiction this year, but we've struggled to find relevant news written directly to their age group. Help us get two subscriptions to Time for Kids aimed at two different reading levels to engage our students, inform them about the world around them, and inspire action about what matters to them. We've also requested a few sequels to our favorite graphic novels that we're chopping at the bit for and other titles from our favorite authors.

Help diversify the type of reading materials we have in our classroom!

Arm our students with information about the world around them and why it's important to be informed about news and real life events. Time for Kids has pieces of varying lengths to draw all readers in and these fiction titles keep our readers engaged in the series they love.
