Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school population is 80% females. As a Title 1 school, most of my students come from low income families whose priorities are food and rent. As a teacher, I have noticed that a lot of my students come and ask me for hygiene and period products. Period products should be readily accessible in restrooms but that is not the case. Females and gender non conforming students should not have to worry where to get period products when they need it.

My goal is to be able to alleviate the need for period products in my school.

Students should only concern themselves with school work, exams and projects and not where to get feminine products during that time of the month. Through this donation, period products would be available for students even if its just for a short duration. Period poverty should not be something that students experience. Through this project, I would be able to help with this need and reduce the stigma associated with menstruation

This project would also engage the whole school community by creating awareness. It is through this engagement that I hope my school administrators, teachers and students would advocate for reducing period poverty in schools. I hope that this would be a start for some change to happen in the future.
