My Project

The students at Bettye Davie East High School (BDEHS) are some of the most dedicated, happy students I have ever had the pleasure to work with. This is also a Title 1 school where most students rely on the School District for a hot meal at least once a day. BDEHS is the largest school in Alaska and has the most diverse population in the USA. When these young women have thier periods they continue to participate in all activities. Sometimes this can be difficult as they may not have the correct period protection or clothing to get them through a day. Some have to go home because their clothes get soiled. Some don't come to school as they have very heavy flows and are fearful that they wont be able to make it through the day. Some days accidents happen. So they come to the Nurse to get support. I would love to introduce them to "Period Underwear" and a change of pants should they need them just so they can stay in school. Most of thier parents work multiple jobs and it is strissful on families to have to come pick their daughters,granddaughters or nieces up because they have soiled clothing.
