Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Each day, students come into my classroom studio ready to work. They are motivated and ready to learn. However, the majority of my students come from under-resourced backgrounds. In fact, 100% of the student body receives free breakfast and lunch in school.

Given the barriers that many students face in our context, dance is a vital creative outlet for self-expression, and physical and emotional well being.

Also, dance improves academic performance and positively contributes to graduation rates. While our dance program has made a lasting impact on the lives of students, I believe that we can do even more for them with your help.

My Project

We have been able to return to performing due to the low numbers of COVID cases in our area. We did use a number of products for the last performance and need replacements before our spring performance!

Spray deodorant helps students stay fresh during and after classes, rehearsals, and performances. Blackout paper is used to cover backstage lights that can not be turned off with a switch. Apple aux jacks allow both my students and I to plug multiple devices into sound equipment during practices and performances. And we had one costume rack break during the last performance and are in need of a replacement so that each class can have their own rack!
