My Students
I teach amazing students with moderate intellectual disabilities. Our focus is to foster independence and help students master functional life skills before transitioning out of our program. The skills we innately master such as brushing our teeth, putting on deodorant, or reading medicine and food labels; my students need to explicitly learn those skills. They all have a huge heart and eagerness to learn.
My Project
The above materials will be used to teach and practice the importance of personal hygiene. Students will brush their teeth, wash their face, put on lotion and deodorant daily. We will start by modeling the proper way to do all of the above through explicit and repeated instruction. students will also have a graphic organizer as a visual to help follow the steps once support is faded. Our goal is to foster independence through modeling and faded support. With your help, our students will be one step closer to independently taking care of themselves.
