My Students

Do you remember reading an entire book with your teacher? I don't want my students to just read parts of a story. I want them to read an entire age/level appropriate novel as a whole class because reading is amazing!

My students live in a low socioeconomic area where homelessness, poverty, and drugs are common.

My school is a safe haven in an area most would not want to be in after dark. However, my students strive to be the best to improve their lives and their families lives. They inspire me to go beyond and I want to do the best for them.

My Project

We will be reading the book both at home and in class. I will be using it as a tool to improve their English language reading and writing skills. We are going to have individual and small group projects that will tie into our novel. We will have a culminating event that will involve writing and the visual arts to present many of the concepts we have learned through the use of this novel.

I want my students to love reading and you can't love literature if you never read an entire book.

I believe my students will love reading this because even though it is fiction my students will be able to relate to aspects of the main characters life. If they love this book then they will look forward to reading the rest of the series as well as other literature of a similar nature on their own.
