My students are hard workers. They have a desire to look and sound great, to challenge themselves, and improve. For the most part, they don't come from wealthy, "have-it-all" families, but they still have a strong desire to be as proficient as they can.
The kids have had a "revolving door" of directors, of which I am the third in the span of one year.
The kids have taken ownership of the group, and have impressed me with the way they have handled the change, and unstable leadership prior to my arrival.
My Project
FHS was opened in 1994, and of course, many wonderful, new instruments were purchased. However, not much has been purchased since. Cheap hardware was purchased to replace the original hardware, however cheap hardware led to a cheap experience, and much of the hardware we have is held together with tape, or is not functional due to stripped nuts, bolts and screws.
If you wanted a car to last a long time, you'd spend good money on maintenance - just as you should for percussion hardware.
If this project is fully funded, we will finally have good percussion hardware to last. Set up time will be quicker, and the experience will be elevated.
