My students are enthusiastic student musicians at a Title 1 elementary school in the Bronx! They are actively engaged in performing and making music together. They are acquiring the skills necessary to be members of a musical community, and many of them pursue music outside of the general music classroom as well.
Together, they are becoming musically educated and will have the skills needed to analyze, perform, create, and respond to music.
However, because we are without a classroom, we are limited on some of the materials that we desperately need. Thank you for your help!
My Project
In our music room, we are limited on instruments. This project would provide us with a classroom set of egg shakers, temple blocks, and a floor tom. All of these instruments are accessible for students of all ages and abilities.
I've selected a variety of instruments that would enhance my students' musicianship and active music experience.
A variety of different instruments provides opportunities for more creating with different timbres.
At the moment, the only class set of instruments our school has is a set of rhythm sticks, and while rhythm sticks are exciting, we need more variety. A floor tom is more stable than a lap or hand drum for a student that is still developing motor skills. The temple blocks can be used to drive the rhythm in music. Please help us provide our students with more opportunities to experience active music-making!
