This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager to learn, hard working, and like a big family.
My students are mostly 10th graders.
The school is in a low income, mostly African-American neighborhood in a city. Despite issues with the neighborhood (that come with poverty), the kids come in ready to learn and want to do well. They work very hard as a community and always help each other out! They really care about each other, and it always shows in my classroom.
My students try to make good choices about food and our environment, teachers just need to be fun and creative.
My Project
My students would love an opportunity to get out a little energy while studying chemistry. They thought this would be an excellent idea for anytime they just needed to move a little!
Since I don't get money from the school to buy supplies, I often have to buy supplies with my own money.
That means that the students don't often have everything they need. Often, they do not get to move around as much as they would like while still doing projects and research. Under the desk peddles would allow them to do both at the same time! I would love to provide them with this option in my classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
