Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are thinkers and future scholars in a high-need community. Using the Zinn books will help my students feel that they too can read college level books. So far they are sponges in my class and have questioned why we have to share a book or why they are unable to borrow a Zinn book.

The lack of 35 Zinn books (class set) forces my students to share with each other which takes away from independent reading. They are so engulfed in the book and want to read more but the lack of books does not allow them to borrow or take home.

Having a full set of the Zinn books will benefit my students greatly because now everyone can read independently and discuss their findings. They can participate in more group projects and even start early on their research for final presentations. Reading alternative history allows our students to examine historical circumstances today and question the different accounts of history.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to view history through the eyes of those rarely mentioned in textbooks but instrumental to important changes. You make it possible for my students to complete the reading of a college level book. The majority of my students will be the first to go to college from their families.
