My Project

I am requesting fake money and plastic jars to function as piggy banks in order to help my students learn about money. These resources will allow me to teach math in a very real-world and hands-on way.

The best way to combat poverty is to teach students about money and financial responsibility early.

Most of my kids come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and they don't understand what money is, how it works, or how to respect it. This project will allow me to teach about money in a very real way: by “paying” them.

I already have coins and many items for a classroom store. All I really need now is paper money and something to keep their money in so they can see their progress.

In the long run, this will also teach students about delayed gratification, which is another very important skill to have.
