This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A classroom with limited amount of pencils is very frustrating. Our school budget is limited so we do the best with what we get. But can we just get pencils, (the basic tool in any classroom) without feeling like we are depleting the budget?

I teach a wonderful group of 24 second graders.

Most of them are second language learners and are title I students. They are all on free lunch and are now participating in the Breakfast in the Classroom program. My second graders are very sweet and motivated learners.

My Project

I am asking for three basic tools for my classroom: pencils, erasers, and an electric sharpener. It seems very basic. Last year my sharpener broke and was told by the office that they didn't have the budget to purchase a new one for my class. So I made morning trips to the office every day to sharpen my pencils. I am also tired of the endless battle every week to request pencils from the office. It seems we are only allowed a set amount every month. And what if I need more? What if my students write a lot? What if their pencils break? What then?

Please help me get pencils, erasers, and an electric sharpener for my students.

Without pencils, my students cannot do much in the classroom. All I want is to have sharpened pencils for all my students. With your kind generosity, we will have the freedom to write and use our pencils without worrying about not having enough pencils for the rest of the week.
