Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income families within the Bronx. This is a neighborhood school with about 600 students. These students are in need of good quality school supplies. Most of my students walk to and from school every day.

Parents are asked to bring in school supplies from a supply list, but many do not.

Therefore we need the help of DonorsChoose.org! The teachers cannot teach the students unless they have the first supply necessary: A new, beautifully-sharpened pencil! Teachers can jump right into a lesson without having to worry about lack of essential supplies.

My Project

"Can I borrow a pencil?" is what teachers hear all day. To prevent this, my class is in desperate need of good quality pencils.

Many of my students buy their pencils at dollar stores or come to school with no pencils at all.

Cheap pencils break constantly throughout lessons and prevent students from working. The pencils will be sharpened daily by me.

Teachers will have a bin full of newly sharpened pencils each morning. Therefore, we can jump right into our lessons, saving so much time. Teachers and students do not have to sharpen endlessly, or wander around the classroom asking others for a pencil.
