My Project

I teach a group of amazing k-2 students with autism. All students with autism are different, but they each incapsulate unique, smart, and capable characteristics! The most common deficits to autism include poorly developed social skills and difficulty with communication.

In hopes of strengthening my students social skills, I have created a peer social group during our recesses each week.

These social groups include my students (with moderate/severe autism) and general education peers playing together. All of the students play a turn taking game (i.e. perfection, zingo, etc.) and after the game is over they play with sensory activities together. These sensory activities include play-doh, kinetic sand, putty (etc.).

All of the students have fun and benefit from this social group. Unfortunately, all of the sensory materials get used up. At this time, I am down to very few sensory materials. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to replenish our sensory materials.
