My Students

One of my favorite quotes from Hope and Wade King's book, called The Wild Card, says: "Enthusiastic teachers can build strong relationships with students because they see each child as a separate human being. They don't teach a classroom- they teach individuals." As a teacher, I am in awe, every day, with the way my students think, wonder, and respond to situations that arise in their daily lives.

Our school is culturally diverse, and our classroom is filled with differences; yet we have one thing in common: we are a close family.

We value these differences and see the opportunity to learn from all of our backgrounds and experiences. As referred to, throughout The Wild Card, nurturing relationships is important in our classroom. We take time to learn about one another; we value each other's thoughts, ideas, and opinions. We will continue to connect with those in our school, our community, and globally. On our adventures, true friendships will form, and we will become a closer school family. Literature and art help unite us, inspire us, and develop a love for adventures and the new experiences we will have as a class.

My Project

Peep, peep, peep that's the sound of little fuzzy puffballs as they warm up in the egg incubator after a tiring hatching experience. I borrowed an egg incubator for the first time a few years ago, and my 2nd graders learned about the life cycle of a chicken. They were diligent about checking and recording the temperature, humidity, etc and in the end, we were there in our classroom as the chicks began to hatch out of their shells. My students were so excited, and in amazement at what they were seeing; they even sang Happy Birthday. Instantly they fell in love and took great care of these tiny yellow chicks before we took them to their final home at a beautiful farm. The entire experience is one that I will remember for a lifetime, and I know that my students will too.

Life should be filled with memorable moments that make you amazed, curious, and happy.

I want to recreate this valuable life cycle experience for future students. There are many academic activities that will accompany this life cycle project in the areas of science, math, reading, writing, and art, but the greatest area focuses on love and compassion for life. Students will work hard at learning the process and procedure for taking care of these fragile eggs and practice responsibility as they help the tiny chicks flourish.

Your donation will help us have our own classroom incubator and some of the accessories that are required for egg hatching. I will be able to place fertile eggs in the incubator at any specific time, instead of having to hope that I can borrow one. You will create memorable moments for future students to remember throughout the years. Life is precious, and my students need to always be curious.
