Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help give my students access to social-emotional learning activities that will help students build self-awareness, and develop coping strategies for my classroom's Calm Down Corner.

This safe and welcoming space will give my students the opportunity to recognize, process, and manage their emotions in a healthy and constructive way by using a variety of activities: books, puzzles, positive affirmation stickers, making bacelets, so that they may return to learning with a clearer mind and a calmer heart.

The goal of this project is to help students identify and manage their emotions through the use of calming tools and social-emotional learning activities. By engaging with these activities, students will build emotional awareness, develop healthy coping skills, and return to learning feeling focused and supported.

My students are incredibly special because they are part of a fully integrated class, representing a beautiful diversity of backgrounds and learning needs. In our classroom, we welcome students with individualized education plans (IEPs), English learners, students performing at various grade levels, and children with social-emotional needs—all learning side by side.

Many of my students are still learning how to recognize and verbalize their emotions, and they benefit greatly from having a supportive space where they feel safe and understood. The tools in our Calm Down Corner—including puzzles, books, affirmation stickers, and sensory items—help students recognize, express, and manage their feelings in healthy ways.

With your generous donation, we will be able to expand this safe space with new calming activities and resources that students can turn to whenever they need a break or a moment to reset. I’m proud that my students already know that this space is available to them, and now, thanks to your support, it will become even more meaningful and effective in helping them cope with their emotions throughout the school day.
