Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school located within Los Angeles. I specifically, teach twenty-seven diverse and curious fourth-graders. Each of which are bright and passionate. They look for opportunities in which they can thrive. The students work hard at everything they do, many of them looking for ways to demonstrate their strengths. I have both seen and discussed with students that often times their strengths can best be seen outside of the traditional classroom setting and traditional activities.

My students have the tools and skills they need in order to succeed, and my role as their teacher is to show them how to use said tools, in order for them to reach their fullest potential.

That is why I believe incorporating movement is essential. Students love to move! Therefore, it is imperative to connect their learning with physical movement to ensure a cross-curricular understanding of concepts.

My Project

The balls, hoops, and parachute that I have asked for will help my students be more active! I intend not only to use the items to teach physical education and its importance, but to also reinforce academic and social skills. I am excited about these items because they will not only help to engage more students outside of the traditional sports students typically play, but it can also assist students in feeling more confident and successful. I see the equipment as a tool to help students get out of their comfort zones, and remind them that learning and working with their peers can and should be fun and exciting!
