My Project

Setting Up PBIS Framework & Seeing through to Reward Student Achievement

Objective: Establish the foundational elements of PBIS in the school community and reward students for their achievements.

Our school has formed a PBIS team consisting of administrators, teachers, counselors, and support staff to develop clear, consistent behavioral expectations and rules that are culturally responsive and equitable. We have created a plan for teaching these expectations to students and staff and purchased PBIS software for our school community to use for rewarding points to students for their outstanding behaviors. The system is programmed to allow school personell to reward students "Excellence", "Character" and "Community" points as defined by our school values and mission statement. As we have successfully developed a system for recognizing and rewarding positive behavior, we depend greatly on access to prizes that will motivate and incentivize students to improve our school climate. This project serves to provide a first full cycle of points rewarding that culminates in the redemption of points for actual PRIZES that they want.

We are teaching high school students in Mount Vernon, NY, so baby erasers and glitter stickers are not going to cut it. Instead, we look for Donors Choose support to help me build a Prize stash for our newly implemented PBIS rewards system.
