Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our high school is a PBSIS NJ school (positive behavior support in schools) and we participate in activities to improve our student's social and emotional learning as well as their mental health. With PBSIS we create a positive space for students to learn, share, and excel.

Each marking period, different teachers nominate students to participate in our Academic Aces ice cream social event; students work diligently during the school year to be able to participate in this reward.

This is not given to only the top students in the school; each teacher nominates someone who has shown growth, dedication, and hard work. This program is meant to inspire all of our students to work hard, be a positive global citizen, and maintain a good attitude.

This project will cover one of the marking periods ice cream social. We hold four of these a year with different departments responsible for nominating the students. With this project, we can have over 100 students be recognized and rewarded.

By using the PBSIS system of 4 positive comments to 1 corrective comment, we continue to promote a positive mental health philosophy in our school. We continue to create a culture where all students feel safe, heard, and are willing to share their struggles as well as their achievements. PBSIS has been a wonderful success at CHS and we are continuing on our fourth year.

Thank you so much for considering our project and helping to create a stigma free atmosphere in our school.
