PBIS and Financial Literacy? Yes!

Help me give my students a classroom store that not only rewards positive behavior, but also builds essential financial literacy skills!

My Project

At our school, students are recognized for positive behavior and going above and beyond to follow our schoolwide B.A.R.K. expectations through our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program. As part of this, students earn points through our online PBIS Rewards program, which they can use to purchase our monthly PBIS celebration. This program also allows teachers to set up a classroom store with student selected items, where they can also spend their PBIS points. To make this project a success, I need to stock our PBIS store with snacks, toys, and a variety of items that appeal to students.

By incorporating financial literacy into the PBIS store, I can introduce my students to concepts such as budgeting and saving in a way that is fun and engaging.

My students will need to keep track of their points, determining how many they have to spend, how many they need to save for the end of the month celebration, while also budgeting points to allow them to shop in our class store weekly.

This project will teach my students more than just positive behavior—it will introduce them to real-world financial skills that can help them later in life. By managing their PBIS points, students will learn to think critically about spending, saving, and earning. The ability to hold onto bucks will help students see the long-term benefits of saving, while still giving them the option to enjoy smaller rewards if they choose. In addition to building good behavior habits, this project will help empower our students with the financial knowledge they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
