My Project
Three years ago we ignited a love of reading by hosting our first ever "paw-some readers" party. Each first grader adopted a stuffed dog. We made birth certificates for the animals, fleece blankets, and they decorated their cardboard box homes.
The excitement in the classroom was a barking good time!
After we listened to the story, Can I Be Your Dog, each student talked about how they would care for their dog. The rule is that the dog has to be read to at least five days a week. Teachers know the dog is being cared for by the reading logs students use.
Students learned about different genres of books through book bingo and we used the puppy bracelets and bags as prizes. We decorate our classroom doors with the balloons to help with the excitement! At our morning meetings, students share about their reading adventures with their puppies.
Truly, this is a tradition we hope to continue providing year after year!
