Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students at Parkland are so excited to get to work on a garden this year. They have dedicated countless hours to cleaning up the areas outdoors and indoors and are ready to start planting and seeing their seedlings thrive! We are also trying to incorporate some new learning opportunities like composting and growing greens indoors to show students that no matter what space you are in there are always growing opportunities!

We are requesting seeds, raised beds, soil, a composter, and some organization tools for our seeds, gloves, and trowels.

This helps us give our students the opportunities we want them to have and allows them a space to learn about gardening so they can take that back into their communities.

Our goal is to grow enough food this year to provide at least 50 Parkland families with a supply of fresh fruits and veggies for the growing season. This will impact at least 200 people as well as teach our students how to expand it outside of the schools impact into their communities as leaders and teachers themselves in an area where there is not always a lot of access to things like fresh fruit and veggies. Our school is mostly low-income students who may not have access to this kind of food or learning elsewhere and we are striving to spread the wealth and the information.
