My Project

Greetings Friends,

I began a crochet club for my high school students 2 months ago.

I was able to fund my club through the generosity of Donors Choose. I thought 20 kits would be more than enough- but I have 40 kids who have been showing up regularly! So I am humbly asking for additional so that every student will have one.

I have been crocheting since I was in college and I wanted to share this special hobby with my students. They live in an underserved community and many of them don't have access to mental health care. I know I said that crochet is a hobby, but it can actually be a lifeline! Studies have shown that the repetition and simplicity of crochet makes it an ideal tool for students' mental health. It is a great way for them to relax and combat stress. Crochet has increased in popularity in young adults because it is fun and very versatile. They can create anything from stuffed toys to fashion.

The Woobles kits are ideal for learning to crochet. The trickiest thing to learn with crochet is how to begin. The Woobles kits come already started. That way the students have something to crochet into, rather than having to start from scratch. The yarn in each kit is also excellent for beginners.

Please help me continue my club. I am very happy that so many students are learning this great hobby. Once their technique is established, we will move onto more individual projects, and possibly a service project where we make beanies and blankets for hospitals to use in their maternity wards.
