Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi, everyone! I have 27 first grade students this school year who are full of energy and, most importantly, eager to learn. They love to read and learn many subjects. They enjoy their classroom because it is full of fun activities and comfortable.

Students learn multiple subjects throughout the day including physical education indoors and outdoors.

They love reading and doing science experiments. They are very eager to learn every day and are learning to be the best that they can be. They love their classroom and want to learn something new every single day!

My Project

It is said that “High parent engagement can be nothing but positive” Henderson and Berla (1994). Parent involvement at a young age is crucial and most definitely beneficial for students.

At our school, we have Family Friday.

Family Friday consists of parents joining us during the morning to read to their children. I want my parents to not only come for that Friday but to be part of their child’s education.

One way parents can join their child’s educational experience is teaching them through Literacy stations. I will tell parents that they are welcome to join us throughout the school year to be part of the classroom by teaching literacy stations. They will each work with a group and teach a specific skill which could be phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar or something else.

I know that reaching out to parents and discussing their children's education with them is vital. I have spoken to several parents, and they think it’s a great idea that they get to be part of their children’s education.

These literacy stations will help parents be involved and join us in the classroom. Parents will not only teach and be part of the child’s education, but they will also be teaching literacy to other students in the classroom. I will have a classroom visitors log as well as take home resources that parents can take and use with their child.
