Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The world is turning global; so many of my students come from homes where English is not the only language spoken. Just last year, I had Spanish, Russian, Thai, Kyrgyz, and Mongolian. Thank goodness for google translate, I was able to communicate with families about the events being held in class.
My families were incredibly grateful for the time I spent translating written communication; but how cool would it be able to speak freely during conferences and at pick up?
Having families be on board with what is being taught in class makes a HUGE difference to a student's education. The connection between home and school can be the number one factor in having a successful school year.
I remember, as an immigrant myself, relying heavily on myself with school matter, because my parents could not communicate in English. They had to trust me to take the lead in my education. This translator can help with communication, relationships, and an ability to be present for all my families.
