My students need a library for the future--their future! My project is to fund an English classroom library for 10th-12th grade. We need books such as Jane Eyre, The Martian Chronicles, the Returning and more.

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I recently had my students respond to a reading survey. I can honestly say the results did not surprise me. Most of my students are reluctant readers, and nearly 50% do not like to read at all. I had guessed as much from their struggles with writing and vocabulary. Over 70% of my students find themselves easily bored when reading and give up.
My desire is to instill a love of reading in my students.
If I can put just one book in their hands that intrigues them, it can turn their lives around. Reading is the key to better writing.
My Project
Sadly, the library I inherited is a couple dozen tattered copies from a bygone era. I want to create a classroom library that sparkles and shines. I want to lure my students in with brand-new young adult titles with flashy covers and intriguing titles. The books are out there. If I can bring them into my classroom, I know I can catch their interest.
One good book could be the hook to get my reluctant readers started on a lifelong adventure in reading.
My students love movies, especially sci-fi, mysteries, and fantasy. I want to carry over that love for adventure and fill my classroom with cyberpunk, alternate history, dystopian worlds, and speculative fiction.
