My Project

My students will be choosing from four of science fiction writer Octavia Butler’s novels during our book club unit. I begin the unit by giving students a synopsis of each book.

Many of my students gravitate towards Parable of the Sower but often find it too difficult of a text.

Parable of the Sower is one of the greatest books ever written—a cautionary tale of the potential catastrophe of climate change.

The graphic novel version of Parable of the Sower will help my struggling readers access this life changing text, and keep them better engaged to read.
