My students need plenty of masking tape to hold together all of our re-purposed materials before we paper mache. The gesso and feathers are the fun part!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My goals for my students always include trying new things and working together as a team. It can be a challenge to do large scale group projects without the necessary supplies. We are great at turning re-purposed materials into art, but supplies help make our projects truly shine!
My incredible artists are creative, ambitious, and want to share their art with the greater community of Oakland.
Our goal is to use these heads to participate in a community Dia De Los Muertos festival, a fantastic opportunity that will give my students a chance to share their talent outside of just our school alone.
My Project
My students will be using recycled cardboard from the cafeteria to make the base for our skulls. After they tape it all together they will use newspaper collected from home to build a giant skull and paper mache it to make it stiff. We will them use the white gesso to prime the surface before adding our details and feathers.
This project not only gives my students a chance to team-build on a large scale group project, but also the opportunity to be involved in a local celebration that will bring attention to their efforts.
We are a class that gives back to the community by donating artwork and helping our school fund raise with our art. We love when people get a chance to see what we do and hopefully put a smile on people's faces at the same time.
