My Students

The school closure deeply affected my students beyond what words could express. As a Richmond City Public Schools teacher, I currently am serving students living in Public Housing and below the poverty level. I have loved working with this group of 3rd grade students as they LOVE learning. We had fun throughout the day, they were focused, attentive, and fully engaged. As a veteran teacher who is certified to teach General Education and Special Education, I choose to teach as a collaborative teacher so that ALL students receive core content instruction with the necessary support provided for each student. To enter our co-taught class, one could not pick out those that receive special education accommodations. We are one, we support each other, because...we are a family. Help us keep our students learning!

My Project

All of our students come from low income families with very few resources to provide what is needed to continue learning from home during this time of school closures. Three one-hour sessions weekly on ZOOM is not enough to give support to our families that struggle to provide for their basic needs, let alone instructional needs that they were prepared for when our schools closed on March 13th. Our students have mostly tested below the expectancy for their age and grade, and this pandemic has put yet another kink in this chain of events for them. My goal is to further support my families with some hands-on materials to continue to assist with instruction at home including flash cards, hot dots pens, hot dots flash cards, and books.
