Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a 6th year high school teacher who has been working in the New York City public school. I worked in an ICT setting for my most of my career and this is my first year in self contain. After two weeks teaching self contain, I've notice my student have a hard time socializing with others and had a really hard time doing any type of group work. I notice schedules and routine works best with my students, so, as a class we decided to create a set schedule for homework room which is one hour every day.

As a class we also decided to have Pancake Mondays.

Every Monday from 8:45am-9:45pm we have assigned roles on making pancakes. Two students will follow instructions on making the batter. Two students take pancake orders, and, at the end of the hour two student are assigned to clean up after the class. This activity has impacted students’ social skills with-one another.

In our self contain setting we had noticed mostly low energy throughout the day so we are also seeking small snacks for our students.
