Greetings from Ms. S and The Selfies! I am a first year teacher marching into kindergarten. A majority of my students come from low socioeconomic families. My students come from all over the world. I currently have 13 out 22 students who are language learners. Several of my students and their families are refugees from other countries. They are new to the country and have very little income. Every student needs a special teacher to love them and shower them with educational opportunities that they may not receive at home. Some of my children come to school every day in the same shirt and pants, even if they are growing out of them. I would love to create a loving and growing classroom. I have spent my summer searching high and low for materials to create a wonderful and educational space for my new babies. They are so excited and eager to learn. I hope you will find it your heart to reach out a helping hand for my wonderful students and our future generation.
My Project
I would like to create an art center in my kindergarten classroom. My students love to paint! We have been practicing painting by sight words. As the first six weeks progresses, I would like to add math into the art center. They are thoroughly engaged when participating in this activity. So far, we have been painting at our desks. I would love to get them an easel for an independent art center. Along with that, we are in need of basic art supplies such as paint, paint cups, and a drop cloth to save our carpet.
An art center will offer endless possibilities of interactive learning no matter what subject we are learning.
