Every spring I like to teach the life cycle of the butterfly with my kindergarteners. It is such a marvelous experience to have the kids witness the changes of nature first hand. We draw pictures every few days and write about what we see too.
The best part is releasing them into the wild, allowing them to fly about the air outside when they are full fledged adults.
The kids are AMAZED by this and I as their teacher still am too.
I like to use it as an analogy for the kids at the end of the year. I’ve watched my little kids learn, change and grow….and then I release them out of my class to go onto bigger things.
The pens in my project I use for tracing and circling letters and words when pencils get boring. It’s fun for the kids if get out some interesting writing tools to keep the motivation at its optimum. Believe me, a tiny change like this can make a difference!
The pencil pouches are for next school year so that my new kindergartners have less to purchase on their own. I like for them to all have the same pencil keeper so that some kids don’t come in with super fancy boxes and others come in with a dollar store box that breaks after it’s dropped once.
