This hospital room transformation will enable my students to have a hands-on experience with our human body domain. They will get to dress up as doctors for the day and put their newfound knowledge to good use.
There will be five "operating tables" set up in the classroom complete with IV poles and pretend IV bags.
Each table will be for a different body system that we have learned about in our unit. These body systems include skeletal, muscular, digestive, circulatory, and nervous systems. Students will dress up as doctors complete with scrubs, gloves, surgical masks, and bouffant caps. They will work together in groups to "perform surgery" where they will illustrate, construct, and label each body system. Once the task has been completed, students will write about the activity and the body system to which they were assigned. Finally, they will present their writing and completed body system project to the class.
