This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project was created to help our school provide bilingual books for our new arrivals, They are in need of the gift of kindness, a sense of belonging, and the feeling of validation. These books will be placed into the libraries of every classroom to support teachers in building libaries where every child has access to books that they can identify with.
The goal of this project is to build libraries where our new arrivals can find a familiar home through the pages of a book.
A classroom library is the heart of the classroom and a space where every child should be able to see themselves in. It should host a diverse book collection that allows a child to has access to the joy that can found through the pages of a book.
My students are special because they are refugees who are displaced in hotel rooms with no space to call their own. They come to school emersed into unfamilair spaces, language and social norms. It is our hope that by seeing themselves through the pages of the book they will feel a sense of belonging.
