Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school's values are P.A.C.T., which stands for Persistence, Accountability, Communication, and Teamwork. Our students "live by" these values in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and our gym. Not every student is athletic, but most like to have fun. Instead of soccer, basketball, dodgeball, etc., I aim to make every gym class an opportunity to show our P.A.C.T. values.

With safe, durable, and proper equipment, students can show that despite their athletic abilities, each has something to contribute to their respective teams' goals.

They will persist through obstacle challenges, hold themselves and their teammates accountable to a shared vision, develop and refine their communication skills as they motivate each other, and improve the teamwork skills that will follow them into the classrooms and beyond.

What makes my students special is that they are honest, funny, and resilient. They can make a teacher's most challenging day brighter with their quirky sense of humor and beautiful smiles. I want to make sure that I reach as many students as possible in our gym, that one period every other day where they can release their frustrations, practice mindfulness, grow their inner and outer strength and recognize that without 'team' in 'teamwork', then it's just work! And that's not fun for everyone. Our gym class is a safe space where students can be themselves, find and give support.
