My Students
The students in our classes reflect their vibrant and diverse Bronx community. Their eagerness is contagious. Although many of them are recent immigrants and others are economically disadvantaged their spirit and enthusiasm are inspiring.
They come to school everyday and face their challenges with pride, hope and all the grace a 9 or 10 year old can have.
Their ability to work together and consistently support and encourage each other could teach a few lessons to the adults of the world.
My Project
In an effort to make differentiation of instruction more meaningful, our fourth grade has decided to departmentalize; students now move from one class to another for instruction in different subject areas. The kids love it! They feel more grown-up, and enjoy the different setting and energy that their teachers provide. However, organization can be a challenge...
A drawstring backpack for each student would provide a simple solution to this challenge.
Instead of having to gather their materials every time they switch classes, students would simply leave their homeroom materials in their desks and leave their other materials in their bags. Such a simple fix! No more dropping things in the hall, or being late for class because of misplaced assignments!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
