My Project

I love that my Science Enrichment students love odd things, like owl pellets. Owl pellets are lumps of leftover animal bone and hair that owls spit out from their stomachs. Ugh.

But, students gently disassemble these gray pellets, to identify birds, rodents, and snakes that provide owls food.

Why bother with this grossness? Because owls are apex predators, like we are, and climate change affects owls' food, for better or worse, just like it affects our own human health. In a direct sense, studying the health of an owl's pellets gives a window into our health, too.
