Help Mr. Goudas

I teach Art & Culture to high school students in an impoverished neighborhood in a DC public school.

My students love to paint. I began teaching in this inner-city school this year with the hopes of opening new doors for my students. I was jarred into reality when I learned that the vast majority of my students have not taken an art class since elementary school. Reluctant at first, my students have learned how to mix paint colors, create gradations and patterns, and to enjoy expressing themselves in a constructive way. They have begun to take pride in their work and have complained about the lack of drying space for their artwork. I find myself reshuffling the students' artwork after every class period to accommodate the next class's work. The art room that I have taken over is not equipped to house or store artwork.

If I were to receive new drying racks for my students' paintings, then I could show them that our school wants them to succeed in their artistic endeavors. They get frustrated when they have to search for their artwork in piles in the back of the room. Instead, they should be able to locate it safe-and-sound where they left it - on the rack.

The students in my neighborhood lack many, many resources they need for success. Your donation would show them that people do want them to create art and express themselves. It would help organize one simple facet of their academic lives that may have life-long benefits.
