Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One word that completely describes my classroom is: home. My special education students often referred to our bright, sun-soaked room as "home", and to one another as "family." Even when we transitioned to remote learning this past year, my loving students continued to uplift one another with smiles, songs, check-ins, and positive messages of encouragement.

My students radiate authenticity and kindness each day.

They are inspirations as they continue to persevere through unimaginable challenges. Such challenges exist beyond our classroom, given that we are a Title 1 school.

This upcoming year, my students will likely struggle to transition back into in-person learning. Therefore, I want to create a safe, inviting space with adequate supplies that can meet all of my students' needs. With these resources, my students' curiosity, creativity, and love for learning will thrive!

My Project

Each and every day my students demonstrate a love for learning. This spring, we moved from our lively classroom to our homes for safety. But now as we ease back into in-person learning, I recognize the necessary supplies my classroom needs to support my students.

Classroom environments are essential in promoting students' academic growth.

My students with special needs especially require a space that is clutter-free and minimalistic. Organization as well as a clean, inviting atmosphere allows for all students to feel comfortable and safe.

Studies have shown that classrooms that have a neutral color palette and contained supplies benefits all students; specifically students with special needs such as ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, etc. I intend to re-organize our overflowing classroom library with clear bins, as well as store books in large bins above our closets. I also wish to continue to enforce a calming color scheme throughout the room to minimize distractions and sensory overload.
