Outfitting the Gender Affirming Closet

My Project

There are numerous studies showing that when students are able to express themselves they do better in school. This can even be life-saving for some students. When a student who is trans or nonbinary has to wear clothes that don't match their gender identity, it can lead to some serious discomfort and self-hostility. Studies show that by simply helping students to wear clothes that align with their gender identity, they are significantly less likely to experience mental anguish and physical self harm.

We have the chance to help students who are trans, non-binary, or just want to explore their gender identities by providing them with the space, clothing, and resources to live their most authentic selves.

We have already established this closet at our school. We've accepted donations for some amazing clothing items, and now we need the space to be organized to be useable. We need dressers, mirrors, and shoe racks to have clothing be visible to students accessing this closet. Students have shared how excited they are for this service. Now we just need to have the space organized so it is fully functional.
