This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a classroom with students who have many unique needs when it comes to communication, access to curriculum, and visual supports. Having tools to prep materials to make them durable and reusable is an important asset in special education.

In a Special Education classroom tools such as laminating sheets and velcro are staple supplies that are vital to student learning and engagement.

Every year my classroom pulls from online resources such as Unique Learning and Teacher Pay Teachers. In order to prepare this curriculum I must laminate them and add velcro to make each lesson re-useable and accessible for students who struggle with fine motor skills and cannot easily use scissors and glue. We use visual icons to build visual schedules that are re-useable daily. Some of my nonspeaking students need laminated and velcroed symbols to exchange for communication so that they can access their wants and needs throughout the school day.

These materials will provide so much enrichment for my classroom and give my students access to a fuller and richer experience at school.
