This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am fortunate to work with an amazing group of children. Not only do I teach them the fundamentals but they teach me daily the importance of love and acceptance. All of my students fall under the umbrella of autism.

My students all have unique attributes that make them, them!

I wouldn't change them for the world. Some are a tad bit more severe than others but ultimately when it gets down to the nitty gritty, they all have problems with communication and expressing their wants and needs. Yes, some may be verbal, but they may still have problems expressing exactly what it is that they want.

Every time I am asked what do I do, I simply reply.... I AM A TEACHER OF STUDENTS WITH AUTISM! I LOVE WHAT I DO AND WHAT THEY DO TO ME!

My Project

Many student's of Autism have difficulty with communication and fine motor skills. We take for granted the little things such as holding a pencil or a simple "thank you". My students can become frustrated because they are not able to voice what exactly is wrong with them and why they are acting out. There are so many apps out there that assist with communication and practice with fine motor skills. We are requesting an iPad so that my students can use the apps that will help them find their voice.

Besides the use for communication, the educational needs are endless.

Children are attracted to bright lights and sounds and let's admit it, some times the teacher voice just doesn't cut it. So if there is that one app that grabs the student to learn about addition, then bring it on.

Technology is part of our society and it is definitely part of the education system. In order to get the attention of all students, we must empower all of their strengths and dig deeper to grab the areas that they find most difficult. With the help of an iPad, all of my students will be able to access their education in a manner that fits them.
