Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher, I have the privilege of guiding and teaching students with a wide variety of knowledge, life experiences, and unique personalities that cannot be replicated. My students come from a wide variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, with the majority of them residing in the west side of Chicago. The students rely on school-owned instruments and resources, as 95% of my students do not own an instrument or have access to outside programs for music.

Despite the circumstances, these facts do not stop these young minds from putting forth their best efforts into the newly developing music program.

My students have committed themselves to musical excellence, developing their musicianship and pushing themselves to sharpen their musical talents and abilities. It is my goal to give these students the necessary tools to help them succeed not only at the high school level, but potentially prepare them for the collegiate music level. Above all else, I would love to provide my students with the best experience that I have to offer here. And with your contribution, you will give our music program the necessary instruments and equipment to help our program grow!

My Project

Having accessible instruments for our new Modern Band Program is our main priority during this school year. As the program grows, so does the musical interests of the student body at Prosser. Many of our students are interested in Latin music and Mariachi bands, and my goal is to give them a realistic approach to learning the music they love. For this reason, I hope to give my students the opportunity to play Acoustic-Electric Guitars, a very first for PCA!

Because of our increased accessibility to classroom instruments, students have shown a drastic increase in motivation and practice during school, before school, and after school.

Having these instruments available during class time will give the students more of a realistic insight into what their favorite music sounds like and feels like in real time. I believe that when these students express interest in music, then the experience should be as best for them as possible. They are deserving of the use of these Acoustic-Electric Guitars that will allow them to continue their musical growth and give them the sound that they desire. Please help and support them by donating to this project!
